Sliding Through the Airport Security Checks PhotoYou have seen the lines to get through airport security. This is become more and more congested. Passengers have not taken the time to read the rules and that slows everyone down and make the boarding process be more frustrating.

The first and foremost, ensure that your carry in the bag is the right size. Many airlines have different rules, so always check with the airline before packing. As a rule of thumb, most  airlines allow two items to be carried on. Fisrt is personal bag, such as handbag, laptop, camera bag, or purse. Then the second is something with 45″ length, height, and width total dimension of the bag to fit in the overhead. Some airlines also have a weight limitations in your carry on bag. If the bag can not be carried on, remember that the only lock you are permitted to use is the TSA lock.

Then, make sure you are not packing any prohibited items in your bag. The sharp objects or weapons are just common sense. However, many airlines now allow scissors with blades less than 4″ long, screwdrivers less than 7″ long, the tools less than 7″ long, including wrenches and pliers, knitting needles, tweezers and nail clippers. For a complete list you can obtain from your  airline or from their website.

You must remember that you will personally have to go through the metal detector. So, take some attention with your dress for your trip. You need to remove your belt if it have a metal buckle. Also your watch, and most other jewelry except rings and / or small earrings should be removed before going through the metal detector. Additionally, most shoes have some sort of metal reinforcement and they also have to be removed. With the exception of your shoes, it’s easiest to put all of items in your bag, and put them on after passing through the security. Always be sure to bring medical proof along with you if you have any type of surgery that would use metal pins or parts. This is important because you have no other way of proving why the machine keeps identifying metal on your person.

The easiest way to approach going through the airport security is to be organized. Security will occasionally do random searches and overstuffing your bags will makes it harder for them to look through your bag. Plus, it will make it more difficult for you to close the bag and continue your way. Many experienced traveler’s pack in special packing cibes so that all of their underwear, socks and sleepwears are together. There are also cases to keep your toiletries separate.  Security officer may also ask to see items that appear on the x-ray machine.  If your bag is well organized, you can find the items they asked to see much faster and easier.

You will notice that more and more passengers are carrying on bags. Cause the overhead compartments of the plane become so full, it is important to put identification tags on both handles of your cases. It is easy for someone to mistake your bags for his or her own cause your bag will not always fit in the compartment above your own seat. There is a new line of luggage called Mosaic. It has monogram plate for initials on the bottom of the case. This is a great idea because the bags are clearly identified from the back end and that is what you can see first in an overhead compartment.

These tips will help you to get your way quickly and efficiently. Have a great travel experience, then.
